Top 10 Reasons to be Thankful for Samoyeds

Sacha says Happy Thanksgiving!

On this day for which we give thanks, I wanted to take a quick moment to talk about why we are so thankful for our Samoyeds. Which seems appropriate since this is a blog devoted to Samoyeds.

We’re thankful for so many things from all three of our Samoyeds, Zoya, Ramius, and of course our current Samoyed Sacha. This could be a list of 100, but who would read that right? So, here are the Top 10 Reasons to be Thankful for Samoyeds this Thanksgiving/

10. They are always smiling

Nothing brightens your day more than waking up, or coming home to, a Samoyed’s smiling happy face.

9. Samoyeds make a great winter comforter

Since we’ll be in LA this winter, this is less of a need than it is in Chicago. But still, on those cold, winter nights, nothing beats having your Samoyed snuggle up with you in bed or next to you on your couch.

8. Samoyeds are very clean

As long as you brush them and have them groomed regularly, Samoyeds don’t have much of an odor at all. And they’re very clean and are always attentive to their fur. Other than when they blow out their undercoat and your house looks like white tumbleweeds, their shedding is manageable.

7. Their Fur Makes Great Yarn

It’s true, and they call it S’arn. Though we’ve never done this, your Samoyeds fur can be spun into a yarn. Which could be a great thing to donate to your local charity.

6. They’re great with children

If you have kids, nieces, or nephews, you’ll love having a Samoyed around. They love playing with children and are very protective of them.

5. Samoyeds are chick magnets

Well this isn’t of much use to me as a happily married man. But a note to any single guys out there, if you want to meet women in your neighborhood, get a Samoyed. Trust me!

4. Samoyeds offer solid protection

Here she is! Zoya, our very first Samoyed! She and her brother Ramius are very deeply missed.

When my wife first moved into what eventually became our place in Chicago, the neighborhood was…well…not so great. One of the reasons she got our first Samoyed Zoya is for protection. And did that ever work! Our Sammies are on the bigger side, as they’ve each weighed over 90lbs. Take a big dog, add in a ton of fur, and they look even bigger.

3. They’re like puppies forever

Now mind you, that can be both a good thing and a bad thing. But your Samoyed never loses his playfulness. They’re always active and love to have fun.

2. They’re the life of the party

Whenever you have friends and family over, your Samoyed will become the center of attention. And if your Samoyed is anything like all three of ours, they’ll love it!

1. Samoyeds bring joy to your life

One thing we’ve found with our Samoyeds is that they will be your best friend. No matter what kind of day you’re having, your Samoyed is always affectionate and wants to be by your side. What’s a better definition of a best friend than that?

Happy Thanksgiving!

This list could certainly go on and on, and I’m sure I missed a few things that I’ll be kicking myself about later. If you have a Samoyed, or know someone who does and would like to comment, please do so below. Or, if you’re thinking about getting one and have a question, please be sure to ask. We’ll be sure to get back to you, maybe even Sacha himself!

And two more quick things before you go.

If you have a Samoyed, or know somebody who does, but sure to check out our page of shopping and gift ideas. Though these are more summer related, many of these items are good all year round. And besides, summer is just around the corner right? Right…?

And also, whether you have a Samoyed or any other type of dog, you must make sure you have good pet health insurance. Readers of this blog know how partial I am to Healthy Paws Pet Insurance and you can read my FULL REVIEW by clicking here. They’re even good for cats too! πŸ™‚

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Sha baby! This page is so cute! I like the comforter part, but I can snuggle with goldfish, so I’m kind of jealous lol. I wanted a sheep dog at one point, but my neighbor used to have one of these. very pretty dog. Do you know a good breeder? I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Holidays!

    1. Sacha

Yes if you’re looking for a breeder in the Chicago area lemme know. It’s where I came from as well as my brother and sister.

  2. Jim

I saw a little footnote that said “Cubs Win”. Well, I’m from Chicago (a long time ago) but I was absolutely thrilled to see the Cubs win! I grew up with them in the fifties and sixties, and this was such a thrill for me. But anyhow, I also love how you love your Samoyeds. I don’t have Samoyeds, but my wife and I have Australian Cattle dogs. But I can identify with your love for your dogs. I have had some friends who did have Samoyeds, and I have to agree, they were simply great dogs. Well, I’m glad that I came across your website. Thanks for putting it out there, and I wish you all the best

  3. Empowering Life Discovery

I love playing with our dog. She is so much fun and every time, I come in the door she is on her hind legs stretching for attention.
I have a rescue Puddle Maltese mix, she is white and her fur is so soft.
Like your Samoyeds, she is loving. I do like the fact that the Samoyeds are great with children. I have to watch Patches when we have family over.
Thanks for the great stories. I did not know much about Samoyeds till now.
    Thanks, Keith

Awesome website! I’ve never had a Samoyed myself, but when I was grown up with kids of my own my parents had one. His name was Lance and he was gorgeous. Even though they lived out in the country he always did manage to have a gorgeous white coat. And he was great with all the grandkids. He was always my dad’s buddy and just a great dog. Since I like to crochet I love the part about spinning their fur into yarn. Wish I’d know it back when Lance was around.

Aww. This is such an adorable website. I have never had the pleasure on having a Samoyed as a companion. I do have two Siberian huskies, kind of look like Sacha in the face. But These beautiful Samoyeds must be very very special friends to have. I couldn’t help but to smile through the whole article. Thanks for sharing, this brightens up my day!

Hey I’m wondering how much Samoyeds eat.

I didn’t know these dogs existed until now. They really do seem to act like puppies all the time. The youtube videos are really sweet!

They remind me of huskies and I know they eat a lot. And How much money do they cost?

I would like to find a breeder around the carolinas in North America.

  7. Connor

Very good read haha! Dogs really are so awesome and definitely something to be thankful for! I also found this very interesting as i’ve never heard of the breed Samoyed’s before, which I totally understand because when I tell people that I have a Weimaraner, the confusion on their faces is priceless!

    1. Sacha

Thanks Connor! You’re not from Chicago by chance are you? I have a good friend back there who is a Weimaraner named Herman. He’s really good at fetch! Are you his Dad?
