Sacha’s Diary May 16, 2017 – Driving Cross Country
Well it’s been a bit of a whirlwind these last couple of weeks. On Monday, May 1, I hopped into the SUV with my mommy and daddy in Los Angeles, and we didn’t stop until we got to Chicago! Well, that’s not exactly true. We did stop and stay in motel rooms for three nights in a row, but you get the point. After 3 days and 2,000 miles, I arrived back in my original Chicago home!
This is the second time my parents have driven me across country in the last 6 months. I have to say, I kinda like the experience. I wasn’t sure I would, but my parents do their best to make sure that I’m comfortable.
And I really like the motion and sounds of the car driving across the highway. I’m so relaxed I take lots of naps which seems to please my parents for some reason.
Mommy and daddy did a really good job of prepping the car for me. We have this SUV and my parents had a bunch of junk they needed to bring back to Chicago for some reason. I never understand this, why do you humans need to so much stuff? Honestly?! All I need is my harness, tags, and bowls for my food and water. Are your lives so much more complicated that you have to take boxes and boxes of stuff? Seems to me you spend most of your time packing it, loading it into the car, unloading it, and then never using it when you get to your destination! You humans are so bizarre.
Anyway…I digress. So even though that have all this crap in the car, my parents do a great job of making sure I have plenty of space in the back. They leave enough room for me to get up and walk from the driver’s side to the passenger side whenever I want. Plus, they always leave my bowls filled with food and water so I can get that stuff whenever I need it. And whenever they stop for gas or to get something to eat, we always take a nice little walk so I can get some exercise and go poop. Going poop is one of my favorite things to do and…oh wait, that’s TMI, never mind…
It’s fun for me to travel through different parts of the country and see all of these states. So much of our country is really gorgeous! There are tons of beautiful mountains, and rivers! Especially when you drive through the western states like California, Nevada, Utah, and of course Colorado. But by the time you hit Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois…wow! Is it ever flat all the way back to Chicago!
It’s good to be back in my Chicago home, but I have to say, it feels a bit odd. One of my friends here at the condo building where I lived passed away shortly before I got back, which makes me sad. I wish I could see my old friend again. Makes me think of sweet brother Ramius who passed away last year as you know.
My parents have been taking me for lots of walks around the neighborhood and even though I lived her for many years, it all feels so new to me. I just have to stop every few feet and sniff and sniff. So many new smells are around here! For me, and for most dogs, sniffing is sort of like surfing the Internet – it’s how we find out what’s going on in our world. So I’ve evidently had about 6 months worth of catching up to do on the local news here in the hood.
Not sure how long we’ll be here in Chicago before we head out back west to LA. I know my parents are trying to tell me, but you know, you humans talk funny. In the meantime, I’ll be enjoying Chicago and seeing what mischief I get myself into. 🙂
Please be sure to keep reading for more of my adventures. Oh, and daddy says he’s going to do a blog soon full of tips and suggestions for driving your fur baby cross country. So be sure to check that out! Daddy’s a good writer…not as good as me but…he tries. 😉
Thanks for reading! Until next time Mr. Diary!!
