Sacha’s Diary August 11, 2016
My daddy took me to the dog park this morning. Woo-hoo! I love going to to dog park! I live in the city of Chicago and there’s not really much of a back yard for me to run around in at home. And being a Samoyed, you NEVER want me to be on a city street, or really any street, without a leash. That’s a big no-no!
So, it’s not that often that I get to go to a place in the city where I can run around off leash, completely free. But today was one of those days, and lucky me, there were lots of other dogs around for me to play with.
Livin’ the dream humans! I’m living the dream!
Whoa Was it Hot Outside!
Today was a particularly brutal day in Chicago. Very hot. Very humid. I was one hot dog let me tell you! See what I did there humans? Pretty clever aren’t I? 😉
And if you take a look at my photo above, you’ll see that I’m wearing my beautiful, all-white Samoyed coat, like always. Which is great most of the time but on days like today…yeah…not so much. So, daddy didn’t let me stay too long at the park which is a good thing.
Oh, that reminds me! Be sure to check out the blog post he wrote about ways to keep your dogs cool in the hot summer weather. These tips are a life saver on days like today, let me tell you!
One of his tips includes providing your pooch with plenty of fresh water. And that’s something really cool about this dog park, called Challenger Bark (Hehe. Bark…get it?) that’s not too far from where we live. Inside the bark, I mean park, they have a drinking fountain set up just for dogs! Can you believe that? It looks and works just like a water fountain for humans except that the water faucet is just a few inches off of the ground and the water collects into this bowl shaped receptacle. It’s the perfect height for dogs big and small. Pretty cool, I’d say.
There were about 15 other dogs there when I arrived, which is unusual. It was quite intimidating to tell you the truth. I kinda felt like the new kid showing up on the first day of school you know? But after a few minutes, and a few more butt sniffs, we all got along just fine. All we needed was a tennis ball, but you know who (*cough!* daddy *cough!*) forgot one!
Attention Humans – Be Sure to Clean Up After Your Pet!
I do have a bone to pick with some of you (See what I did there too humans). And it’s a little gross but here goes. There were more than a few, shall we say, occurrences of dog poop that were not cleaned up inside of the park.
Now I’m not going to post a picture of the dog poop because you all know what that looks like. And frankly, it’s disgusting. I mean, I’m a Samoyed and even I think it’s disgusting! But come on people! This is our inner sanctum! It’s a place where we canines get to run around and play free and careless. We don’t need some rogue pet owners using the park and being so inconsiderate as to not pick up their dog’s poop. Geesh!
Plus, it couldn’t be any easier! There are two big old huge city of Chicago garbage cans right next to the entrances of the dog park. Is it that hard to remember to bring bags for poop cleanup? Really? Get it together people!
Okay, I feel better now that I got that off of my chest.
Take Your Pooch to a Dog Park Near You
One thing I wanted to ask of you fellow city dwellers is if you guys have dog parks near you as well. In Chicago, they do a really good job of having those around for us. There are several in my neighborhood, including Wigley Field. And no, that’s not a typo, it’s really called Wigly Field, not Wrigley Field which is also nearby. I see what you did there humans. Well done.
But how does that work in other big cities? I’m curious specifically to hear from you Angelinos! I know walking isn’t really a big thing out there, so do you even have dog parks? How about those of you in other cities, not just in the United States but around the world? What’s the sitch on the dog parks in your hometown?
Dog parks are a great place to hang out any time year, especially in the summer. Just be careful if it’s a hot day like today to make it a short trip. You don’t want your pooch overheating, that can be very dangerous. Oh, and if you haven’t already visited this page, be sure to check out our shopping list of fun things you can get for your dogs in the summertime. Lot’s of cool goodies over there to check out!
Okay, well between the hot weather, running around at the dog park, and all of this blogging, I think I’m done for the day. Time for me to to curl up next to the fan and take a little nap. I’ve got a big night planned ahead of me. After a nap I think I might go outside. Then, I’ll probably come back in. Then, I’ll probably go outside, and probably come back in again. Drink some water, have dinner, take another nap and then, it’s bedtime! Woo-hoo! Hit ’em with the Hein!
Bye for now readers. Please leave a comment for me below about how you feel about dog parks and I’ll be sure to get back to you.
Until next time Mr. Diary!
